Earring Help Please!?

There was a lot of crust on one side of my 14 gauge and i couldn't get to it with a q-tip. So I took it out and cleaned the earring with hot water for abut 1 minute and tried to put it back in. It wouldn't go back in. I tried again. I even lobed it up with neosporin and tried again. Nothing. It started bleeding so I decided to clean it up and then put in my studs. Studs was a little hard to get in but i got it in. But how come my 14 gauges never went in?
