My new puppy is whining in his crate?

It's SO hard to ignore him, ugh. It's just terrible. I need some tips on how to ignore it! Sometimes he cries when I leave the room too.... if he cries then should I come back in? Or is that reinforcing his crying? If I don't come back in the room, will he develop anxiety problems? He's 8 weeks old.
