Tourist spots near Petchburi, Bangkok, Thailand?

Its my 1st time going on a trip abroad and my first stop is bangkok... We'll be staying at petchburi so that we'll be near the shopping centers, but I want to do more of sight seeing... Is the chao pharaya river near? How can I go around using their BTS? or MRT? Help! Thanks
